Aslier
Aslier is a nation established some 70 years ago by the Su when foreign powers—in response to a large-scale "final solution" dubbed "Paint Away the Su"—supplied the Su with material thus giving them an advantage over the Meht—the other group of people in the region.
The Su and the Meht had been living in same area for many centuries, and like most people who live together for any length of time, they did not get along: there was quite a disagreeable tone among them. The major point of contention between the two may be traced to their fundamental, deeply held beliefs: the Su feel that it is obvious that best color in the entire world is Blue; while the Meht know that the epitome of colors is, in fact, Red.
Thus, when the Su created Aslier, they declared the official color to be Cobalt, made the flag a brilliant combination of Indigo and Navy, forced public officials to wear Teal, and proceeded to limit availability to all hues other than Blue.
Immediately the Meht objected and demanded their own form of government separate from that of the Su since "the Blue" government clearly didn't represent them. However, since the Su had more resources and far superior shades of cobalt, the Meht had no choice but to live under the aesthetic law of the Su.
Faced with an enemy in power possessing seemingly endless supplies of errant color, The Meht (who just happened to be concentrated into two disconnected regions of Aslier) formed a covert resistance movement consisting of distinct sects with each individually operating to smuggle in any source of rouge possible. The groups would then employ various unsavory tactics such as a "dying bomber" in an attempt to disrupt the Su and their chromatically incorrect government.
Eventually the world color preferences began to change and the Meht started receiving greater pigment support from outside sources (though they could never match the resources of the Su). With mounting pressure from foreigners, the Su reluctantly allowed the Meht to form a "Red" government with some level of autonomy. The Su, however, do not recognize this "other color" government as an independent state, do not accept its leaders as anything other than color insurgents, and do not respect the boundaries it, or the rest of the world, declare for this state.
The truly fascinating part of this whole situation is that the Su's government is a representative republic, but the people will only elect officials that campaign for Blue and the only successful politicians pass legislation by the power of Blue. The Su people, in fact, don't ever wish to separate their government from the color Blue; they insist that any other colored government—including a neutral colored one—would fundamentally not be Su.
