Blight of Forever

The Blight of Forever is the religious notion that mankind—while enjoying a blissful higher plain of existence—offended a higher power and is now sentenced to live a cruel life being mortal. Part of the sentence entails that everything humans try to create will be flawed, imperfect, and never instilled with any higher beauty. Also, all thoughts of an individual are inherently wrong and immoral.

Because this notion alone invariably leads its believers to violent, murderous acts (if everything they do is evil anyway they might as well embrace it), there is an additional concurrent concept that there is one way, and just one way, for redemption: one must wholly despise the evil that they are unequivocally possessing. This, and only this, is the true path to enlightenment, the sole way of freeing one’s self, and the single means of paving the way to being accepted back into the higher plain upon death. Thus, anyone not properly hating themselves their entire life will be doomed to eternal torture upon leaving it, while those that remain depressed and dejected will be blessed with a glorious paradise.

Since self-loathing isn’t usually something to be confined to just a few individuals, the believers feel compelled to spread their misery and "save" as many people as they can by ensuring that no one enjoys a happy life.
