League of 58 Legitimate Businessmen

The LLB-58—formerly LLB-62 (February 2008), LLB-61 (March 2008), LLB-60 (March 2008), and LLB-59 (March 2008)—is a forum for the 58 most powerful organized crime syndicates in the world. The first meeting took place in Acapulco, Mexico during August of 2008 where The Standardized Code of Threats, Cajoles, and Other Motivational Factors was drafted and approved. Subsequent meetings are planned with Dhaka, Bangladesh the lead contender—edging out the bids of Moscow, Russia; Minsk, Belarus; and Valencia, Venezuela.

The concept for LLB-58 emerged following the 2007 police raids in France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States which resulted in a number of high-level arrests. After receiving such a shocking blow, it appeared that organized crime was in a very real danger of becoming extinct. Many feared and speculated that they might never recover; exasperation ran deep at the thought of a world where the children would not know or could not experience organized crime. In the midst of this despair and devastation, the crime syndicates were able to put aside their usual turf-related differences (well, for the most part anyway) and forge a mutually beneficial partnership: the LLB-62.

Following the announcement of the then LLB-62 (but soon to be LLB-58), several criticisms emerged. The gathering was derided as the "bureaucratization of once noble crime families" and an attempt to "drive out your mom and pop syndicates". A number of individuals expressed the sentiment that the LLB-61 members were arrogant and disrespectful of the developing crime families—the kind from which most LLB-60 members began. One frustrated individual even exclaimed "they don't even care anymore; all they are interested in is making money and exploiting people".

The overall disdain culminated in the first LLB-58 meeting in Acapulco, where mass protests were staged. Curiously, most protesters recanted their complaints stating that after meeting with a representative of the LLB-58 and having the situation properly explained to them, they saw the wisdom in supporting it. Those few who did not recant could no longer be reached for comment.
